HIGH QUALITY JUST LIKE YOU DESERVE

PRECIOUS METALS

At Miss Foxine, we want you to love our jewelry pieces everyday, that is why we use 14k Gold Filled, 18k Gold Filled, 14k Gold Vermeil, and solid .925 Sterling Silver in our designs. You’re on an adventure, and we want our pieces to move along with you – adorning you through every laugh and special moment on your voyage to being your best self.

Gold Plated

The lowest quality option. Often made from a base of inexpensive materials like low quality nickel, copper, or brass, with the thinnest layer of gold lightly plated on - often times not real gold and only a ‘gold coloring’. This gold coloring can rub off in only a couple wears, turning black once exposed to air and causing skin irritation. We do not use any gold plated materials in our designs.

Gold Filled

Hypoallergenic and a good option for sensitive skin lovers who can sometimes only wear real gold. Gold filled is the closest you can get to real gold while still being cost effective and long lasting. This precious metal consists of a base made of high-quality jewelers brass or jewelers copper, with a thick layer of real solid clad 14K or 18K Yellow Gold; heat and pressure bonded to the base to ensure there is no flaking or peeling. The materials used to create gold filled jewelry pieces are highly regulated, and we only purchase materials from suppliers who adhere to the highest industry standards. The amount of real solid gold used in a gold filled design has to make up a minimum 5% weight of the gold filled jewelry piece.

Often waterproof and resistant to tarnishing - gold filled can last you years to a lifetime with proper care. You can find many vintage pieces from the 1920s - 1950s that still hold their color with much loved wear.

Gold Vermeil

One of the highest quality options out there when you are looking to purchase a piece of jewelry to add to your collection. Gold Vermeil is a thick layer of 14k yellow gold which is then electroplated and is a high-quality sought after alternative next to real gold. This form of jewelry is highly regulated and is 25 times thicker than flash plated costume jewelry. The core of a gold vermeil piece is always 925 sterling silver, a precious metal that will always hold its value with time. Hypoallergenic and high-end, this is a good option for those with skin sensitivities, as it will always be gentle against your skin. With the proper care, gold vermeil is one of the greatest choices you can make as it can last many years of wear; and you will always have a valuable piece of jewelry due to its precious metal sterling silver core.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is one of the most well-known precious metals used in both luxury and heirloom jewelry pieces. It is also used as the base of gold vermeil pieces. Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. Fine silver is 99.9% silver in its purest form. Beautiful, but suffers from softness and malleability. It is then alloyed with copper to make it 925 sterling silver, which is durable for metal work and everyday jewelry wear.

WHAT ARE

FRESHWATER PEARLS

Organic freshwater pearls form in pure freshwater environments such as lakes and rivers. These precious natural gemstones are created by mollusks and bivalves – over many years, layers of lustrous mother-of-pearl nacre forms around a natural irritant such as a grain of stand or piece of seaweed. Our freshwater pearls can take anywhere from 3 – 5 years to reach maturity before they are turned into elegant jewelry pieces, and up to 7 years for our larger rare baroque designs.

Freshwater pearls are not only round, but they often come in a dazzling array of unique shapes and textures. Over 90% of freshwater pearls are known as baroque pearls or keishi pearls. Little bumps, free-form silhouettes, and abstract textures are what in-part makes each pearl so beautifully special, just like its wearer. These natural gems are found in an array of one-of-a-kind shapes, sizes, color, symmetry, texture, and luster – all important characteristics that can increase or decrease a pearls value.

Compared to other gemstones, pearls often go by an A system of grading. A is the lowest rating whilst some specialists will go up to AAAA for more rarer South Sea or Tahitian Pearls. All of our pearls are of the highest AAA grade, and are all hand selected with a strict 7 Pearl Value Factor by a GIA certified gemologist to guarantee you only receive the truest quality.

DID YOU KNOW?

90% of Freshwater Pearls are also known as ‘Baroque’! This means uniquely shaped by mother nature. We love using organically shaped pearls in our Miss Foxine designs - this way we can ensure each piece isone-of-a-kind just like you.

Freshwater Pearls in Filipino History

Worldwide, pearls have been used by ancient Roman royalty, in ornate Chinese jewelry, and has even been found in ancient Egyptian tombs among pharaohs and princesses. Freshwater and saltwater pearls have widely influenced not only jewelry and fashion – but ancient beauty as well. Pearls shimmering nacre was highly sought after, and pearls were then crushed and added into water and oils to create sparkling eyeshadows and glimmering body lotions.

As early as the 1400’s, the Philippines was paving the way for the worlds most sought after luxury pearls and pearl jewelry. Catching the eye of the newest colonists, many Filipino pearls would adorn Spanish Colonial Jewelry, and would be worn by native Filipina and Mestiza women alike. Everyday essentials like Pantoche (hairpins), Peineta (decorative combs), and Creolla (earrings) were worn lovingly.

During the disagreement and breakage against Spanish colonialism, an uprising occurred, and Filipino women island wide wore this beautifully abundant gemstone as a national symbol of pride and reverence – becoming a world leader in pearl culture, fashion, and earning it’s well known title as the Heart of the Sea.

Our Connection

With sustainability at the forefront of our jewelry vision, we make a long-term commitment to using cultured pearls from authentic Filipino communities that care for aquatic life and their natural environment – cultivating in only clean clear waters that are rich in nutrients, with habitat stability at its core. Celebrating her own unique Filipino heritage and culture, Artist Theresa Capell sources her freshwater pearls from Manila, Palawan, and Bellatan Halu Island in the Pacific Islands of the Philippines.

With the heart of the ocean in her soul, east coast born and an islander at heart, artist Theresa Capell incorporates these unique gemstones of the water within her designs. Using the inspiration from her born coastal regions, she incorporates the beauty of natures imperfections to celebrate her Filipino and Canadian coastal heritage.
